This presentation will provide an overview of supported decision-making and of our state''s guardianship laws. It will also explain the difference between substituted versus supported decision-making, outline the need for alternatives to guardianship, including Supported Decision-Making, and explain how less restrictive options can be (and should be) considered before filing for a court appointed guardianship. Practical tools and suggestions will be provided. Self-advocates, family members and service providers will all benefit from the presentation.
